We join the Philippine Catholic Church and offer prayers upon the passing of Msgr Sabino Azurin Vengco, Jr.
Msgr Vengco has been a tremendous force in the Philippine Catholic Church as priest, professor, author, columnist, advocate.
He hails from Hagonoy, Bulacan, born on March 9, 1942. He studied at the San Jose Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood in 1965. He later earned a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the Ateneo de Manila University, graduating Magna Cum Laude; and a Diplomate in Liturgy from the Catholic Faculty of Theology of Trier in Germany, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Professor
He was Dean of Studies of the San Carlos Graduate School of Theology (Archdiocese of Manila) and the Immaculate Conception Seminary Graduate School of Theology in Guiguinto Bulacan (Diocese of Malolos). He was also Professor of Theology at the Loyola School of Theology, the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary, and the Recoletos School of Theology. He was also president of the Msgr. Jose B. Aguinaldo Foundation, Inc. which aids in the education of the youth and catechists in the Vicariate of St. Anne.
Author
He was well known for the power of his pen, receiving the Serviam award from the Catholic Mass Media Awards in 2007.
He was also well known in media as host of the Catholic Sunday telecast Ecclesia in Asia on GMA 7 and DWIZ at 5:00 a.m. on Sundays and a columnist of Business Mirror with a column entitled Alalaong Baga. Read his columns here: https://businessmirror.com.ph/author/sabinovengco/.
Care for the Elderly
He was also a strong supporter and advocate of caring for the sick and the elderly. In 1993, he founded the Kadiwa sa Pagkapari Foundation, Inc., a ministry of caregiving to the elderly and sick Filipino priests.
Last Days
Msgr Vengco was diagnosed with COVID-19 in March 2021 and confined at the Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital. He was healed of the virus but needed a gallbladder operation in May, which was also earlier reported successful. However, while still in confinement, he passed away on May 17, 2021.

Hear with favor our prayers, which we humbly offer, O Lord, for the salvation of the soul of Msgr. Sabino Vengco Jr., your servant and Priest, that he, who devoted a faithful ministry to your name, may rejoice in the perpetual company of your Saints.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
We implore your kindness, O God, for Msgr. Sabino Vengco Jr, your servant and Priest, that, as you made him a steward of your mysteries on earth, so you may bring him to be nourished by their truth and reality as unveiled in heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
