A liturgical and historical icon in itself, the vestment was designed by the Benedictine Sisters of Rosano and was first worn by St. John Paul II in celebration of the Solemnity of the Epiphany in 1987. St. JP2 used it in several solemn liturgies, while Pope Benedict he XVI continued the tradition by using it for four occasions especially during majoor feast days. Pope Francis, during his time, wore it 31 times highlighting its spiritual and pastoral significance.

The Benedictine Sisters of Rosano are known for their exceptional craftsmanship particularly in producing liturgical vestments and church textiles, while living out St. Benedict’s motto, “Ora et Labora” (Pray and Work).

This gesture of Pope Leo XIV is a powerful gesture of continuity and homage to his predecessors.
