Pope Francis Appoints Cardinal Tagle as Member of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches

Updated: Mar 5, 2023

The Holy Father has appointed Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle as Member of Congregation for the Eastern Churches.

Cardinal Tagle is currently the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. His appointment to this post, also called Propaganda Fide, was announced in January 2020.

In May 2020, he was appointed by Pope Francis as a cardinal-bishop, making him the only Asian cardinal to hold such a rank.

In February 2021, he was made a member of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See (APSA).

He also still serves as President of Caritas Internationalis and President of the Catholic Biblical Federation.

He continues to regularly hold Sunday mass at the Pontificio Collegio Filippino at 8:00 a.m. Rome time; 2:00 p.m. Manila time. This is aired via the Pontificio Collegio Filippino Facebook and Youtube pages and in the Philippines on the Facebook page of Dominus Est (follow Facebook.com/DominusEstPH), official partner of the Pontificio Collegio Filippino for livestreaming.
