From VisMin and Beyond: Padayon ta sa Misyon

Some things unfold more beautifully than we expect.

I thought I was simply saying yes to an assembly (Asian Catholic Digital Missionary Assembly-ACDMA).

I didn't know I was also saying yes to new friendships, unexpected laughter, shared stories, and people who would somehow feel like old friends in just a matter of days.

I traveled with Melot (Carmelle Claire Therese Estenzo) from Cebu, whose passion for digital communications has always inspired me.

And Fr. Vhen (Fr. Vhen Fernandez), also from Cebu, whom I've known even before the assembly, made the gathering feel even more familiar. It was a joy to reconnect and share this mission journey together.

Then Manila brought more names, more stories, and more beautiful surprises:

Pau (Pau Fernando) from Zamboanga.

Kat (Kat Manguera) from Marinduque—who we jokingly decided could make the "M" in VisMin stand for "Mirinduque."

Mikay (Mikay Ellah Tabada) from Butuan.

Gie (Gie Rhea Jadulco) from Davao.

Paul (Paul Albert Paloma) from Tagum.

Philip (Philip Louis Embate) from Cagayan.

Fr. Ezekiel (Fr. Ezekiel Ma. Gamboa, FI) from Naga.

Ate Jo (Jo April Chang) from Batangas.

Miral (Miral Atik) from Palestine.

And of course, Sister Monica Aguirre—the happiest pill ever!

Her joy was simply contagious. She had this beautiful way of bringing lightness and laughter wherever she went, making even ordinary moments feel a little more special.

And so many others whose names and stories have now found a space in my heart.

Most of us had never met before.

And yet, somehow, it didn't feel like meeting strangers.

It felt like finding people we had simply not met yet.

Maybe that is how friendship sometimes begins.

Not with years of knowing one another, but with a few conversations.

A shared meal.

A good laugh.

A silly joke.

A late-night game.

A spontaneous "Sige, tara!"

Between sessions, we shared stories and food. We laughed over the smallest things. We found our way to a cat café.

And yes, because apparently midnight was not late enough, we even managed a 10 PM–12 midnight pickleball game.

Then there was "Masayang Kristiyano."

It wasn't perfectly planned.

It didn't need to be.

We simply stepped forward, joined in, and shared the joy.

And maybe that's what friendship looks like, too.

You don't always need a perfect plan.

Sometimes, you just need people willing to journey with you.

People who will laugh with you when things go a little crazy.

People who will say, "Tara!"

People who make you feel that you are not alone.

Perhaps that is what made this assembly special.

Not only the sessions.

Not only the lessons.

Not only the conversations about digital mission.

But the encounters.

The people behind the screens.

The stories behind the names.

The faces that became familiar.

The strangers who slowly became friends.

And then, almost too soon, it was time to go home.

Back to our different islands.

Our different cities.

Our different countries.

But something had changed.

Because the assembly ended…

But the friendship didn't.

The conversations continued.

The messages continued.

The laughter continued.

And in the quiet moments after Manila, I found myself realizing:

Maybe one of the greatest gifts of ACDMA wasn't only what we learned, but who we met.

We came from different places.

We speak different languages.

We carry different stories.

We have different journeys.

But somehow, the mission brought us into the same room.

And in that room, God gave us something we did not necessarily come looking for: friendship.

A friendship that crossed islands.

A friendship that crossed borders.

A friendship that reminds us that even in a world increasingly connected by technology, some bridges can only be built through genuine human encounter.

Because technology can connect us.

But presence makes us belong.

We may have come together because of the mission.

But it was friendship that made the journey unforgettable.

So I left Manila with more than memories.

I left with gratitude.

For the conversations.

For the laughter.

For the spontaneous adventures.

For the late nights.

For the prayers.

For the people who welcomed me as a friend before they even really knew me.

And for the beautiful reminder that we never carry the mission alone.

From VisMin and beyond, thank you for the friendships God has allowed to grow.

Friendships that began with an invitation.

Strengthened through shared moments.

And continue, even across the miles.

We came as participants.

We left as friends.

And now, we continue as companions in mission.

From VisMin and beyond, padayon ta sa misyon.
