With great joy and thanksgiving to God, the Archdiocese of Manila welcomes His Eminence Cardinal Jose F. Advincula, appointed by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila.

Because of the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic, there will be a series of events to welcome Cardinal Advincula. This will ensure that, while the different groups and sectors in the Archdiocese of Manila are given a chance to welcome the new Archbishop, health protocols are strictly observed.

The Solemn Installation and Mass will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the Manila Cathedral, Intramuros, Manila. On this day, the Solemnity of the Birth of St. John the Baptist, we will also celebrate the 450th anniversary of the founding the City of Manila and of the first parish in Manila that will later become the Manila Cathedral.

At 8:00 in the morning, Cardinal Advincula will be formally welcomed to Intramuros by the Mayor of Manila and the Administrator of Intramuros at the Postigo Gate. This historic gate was used exclusively by the Archbishops of Manila and Governors-General of the Philippines during the Spanish times. At 8:30 in the morning, there will be a Civic Ceremony at the Ayuntamiento, the old city hall of Manila that now houses the Bureau of the Treasury, with the five mayors of the cities within the Archdiocese of Manila, namely, Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and San Juan.

The Mass, which will start at 9:00 in the morning, will be attended by the bishops of the Philippines, the clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila, the clergy from the Archdiocese of Capiz, government officials, representatives of religious men and women, the Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese of Manila, the family and guests of Cardinal Advincula. The rite will include the solemn liturgical reception of Cardinal Advincula, the reading of the Apostolic Letter from Pope Francis, the seating at the cathedra, and the renewal of the priestly promises of the clergy of Manila. Cardinal Advincula will deliver the homily, his first preaching as Archbishop of Manila.

On Friday, June 25, 2021, at 9:00 in the morning, Cardinal Advincula will preside at a Mass at the Manila Cathedral with the laity of the Archdiocese of Manila. This will include representatives from the parishes, organizations, movements, and young people.

On Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 5:00 in the afternoon, Cardinal Advincula will preside at a Solemn Vespers (Evening Prayer) with the consecrated men and women in the Archdiocese of Manila. This will also be held at the Manila Cathedral.

On Sunday, June 27, 2021, Cardinal Advincula will visit Maricaban in Pasay City and preside at a Mass at the Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted Parish, at 9:00 in the morning.

So as not to exceed the allowed number of persons in the venues, all the participants and guests in all these events have been identified beforehand. We invite everyone to join the broadcast of these events, which will be aired on TV Maria (Cable Channels: Sky Cable channel 210, Cignal cable channel 188, Cablelink channel 18, and Sat lite channel 102). They will also be live streamed on the Facebook pages and Youtube channels of the Archdiocesan Office of Communications, TV Maria, Radio Veritas, Manila Cathedral, and all the parishes of the Archdiocese of Manila.
