"The Eucharist is the supreme proof of the love of Jesus. After this, there is nothing more but Heaven itself" ~ Peter Julian Eymard
The Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (Congregatio Sanctissimi Sacramenti, SSS) or the Sacramentinos is a Catholic religious congregation of priests, deacons and brothers whose mission is to promote the riches of God’s love manifested in the Eucharist. Each member of the congregation strives to make Christ known and loved through prayers before the Blessed Sacrament and active apostolic life.
Father Eymard
The congregation was founded in Paris, France in 1856 by St. Peter Julian Eymard. Father Eymard was born in La Mure, and a contemporary and a friend to St. John Mary Vianney, among others. He was ordained in 1834 as a Marist priest. But with his ardent desire to promote the centrality of the Holy Eucharist in the life of the Catholic faithful, he established this congregation. His zealous love for the Body and Blood of Jesus has earned him the title, “the Apostle of the Eucharist.” He believed that the spiritual hunger that we experience can only be quenched by our devotion to the Eucharist.
Sacramentinos as Missionary
Sacramentinos are called to a life dedicated to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist may it be here in the Philippines or abroad as they are present in 29 countries on five continents. Let’s have a glimpse of the life of a Sacramentino through Fr. Vergel Dalangin's story as a missionary in France.
Ordained in 2012, Fr. Vergel is the Novice Master and Superior of the Blessed Sacrament Novitiate in Bulacan. However, before his current assignment, he was first sent to a mission in France. He stayed in a community in La Mure for five years, from 2013 to 2018.
